Top 5 Desk Snacks

Top 5 Desk Snacks

Are you bored of going out and grabbing a chocolate bar or a packet of crisps to stave off your mid-afternoon hunger? We have 5 great snacks that will keep you going through the week and the best thing is that they are all good for you.

Dark chocolate – 60%+cocoa

Dark chocolate is loaded with anti-oxidants and helps to aid with everything from weight control to diabetes. Due to its natural sugars it can also help with productivity which makes it great for an afternoon desk snack. Dark chocolate is also high in vitamins and minerals such as Potassium, Copper, Magnesium and Iron which can all help to support your health.

popcornPopcorn

Unlike the huge tubs of popcorn you can get at the cinema, small bags of popcorn from the supermarket can be a great alternative to snacks such as crisps. Because popcorn comes from whole grains it is very high in fibre and as a result is much better for you than potato based snacks. Due to its growing popularity popcorn can now be bought in a wide variety of sweet and savoury flavours. Alternatively you can pop your own corn, or purchase plane popcorn, and sprinkle finely grated parmesan over the top for a delicious homemade snack.

Vegetable sticks and hummus

I’m sure we have all been to a drinks party and been greeted at the nibbles table by veggie sticks and hummus, but it turns out they are a great snack. Hummus is packed with filling protein to help combat fatigue, and I think we all understand the benefits of veggies! It’s great if you can find the time to make hummus yourself, however if you do buy it be sure to buy one with chickpeas as the main ingredient to be super healthy.

Trail Mixes

Trail mixes are great because they provide a balanced mixture of sweet, salty and sour to satisfy all of your taste buds, and they are very easy to make yourself. Simply add 1 cup of nuts or pretzels to half a cup of dark chocolate and half a cup of dried fruit. The great thing about making your own mix is that you can pick your own nuts and fruit. If you’re stuck for ideas why not try roasted hazel nuts, dark chocolate, raisins and candied orange peel to make Jaffa Cakes!

Bagel and Peanut Butter

This is one from our American cousins but is a delicious sweet snack to get you through to the end of the day. Simply spread a tablespoon of peanut butter on to half a whole wheat bagel for a tasty 240 calorie snack. The carbohydrates in peanut butter trigger the release of “feel good” chemicals from your brain and the high quality carbs that you get from the whole grains in the bagel help to make this high last for longer, helping to keep you happy until you clock off!
